Melbourne International Design Week aims to highlight the role of design as a catalyst for innovation, linking creativity with business, technology and the community. The public program, a Victorian Government initiative that is curated and managed by Ideas on Design, celebrates the impact of local and international design, showcasing the best across a broad spectrum of design disciplines including built environment, communication, product and industrial, digital and interactive and strategic design. Importantly the program maintains both international and local celebrations of design excellence, bringing opportunities for global connections as well as strengthening Melbourne’s reputation as a Design Centre of our region.
This annual week-long program targets a broad audience including designers, businesses, schools and the general public, treating them to an impressive and unique line-up of high profile Australian and international designers, exhibitions, events, workshops, and networking opportunities intended to inspire and educate. Events are delivered to build design capability and raise awareness about the benefits of design for improved standards of living and increased economic prosperity.
MIDW 2015 was leveraged off a series of landmark events delivered via the Ideas on Design brand. The Ideas on Design program offers inspiration through world-class presentations that recognise how design can make a difference to our standard of living and challenge the perception and interpretation of good design practice.
The focus is always on collaboration. The extended MIDW program is developed in conjunction with multiple partners including major cultural institutions, local councils, universities, design associations and the broader design, and business community.
